Foundations for Success Summer Course
The goal of the Foundations for Success course is to provide you with essential skills that will help you succeed in your classes and on standardized exams. Strong critical analysis and reading comprehension skills are essential to becoming a successful healthcare provider because healthcare providers need to be able to critically assess information they receive in order to make good decisions about patient care. In addition, your ability to teach yourself by reading texts and articles will be critical for your academic success. For this reason, reading comprehension and critical analysis skills are tested on professional school entrance exams like the MCAT, PCAT, DAT, and GRE. Proficient study skills are also essential to performing well in any class and on any standardized test. However, many students have never had any formal training in how to critically assess a reading passage or how to study. Therefore, this course will provide you with a strong foundation in these skills, which will be invaluable to you in this program and in the future; these skills will help you succeed in your classes, excel on standardized exams, and even write good personal statements.
Each summer the College of Science and Technology Post Baccalaureate Pre-Health Program offers the Foundations for Success course to any student admitted to the ACHS track who is interested in working on their study and critical reading skills before the program begins. There is no cost to the student for this course. This course is is taught by CST Post Baccalaureate Pre-Health program faculty.
